AREA COMMITTEE WELL-BEING FUND SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMME

Local voluntary, community and faith groups can apply for funding for projects which meet the Area Committee’s priorities and operate in the boundary of the Area Committee. A maximum of £500 is available for applications from a single group/organization or £1000 for joint projects. You can only apply for 1 grant a year. You can apply at any time for resources to run a community initiative such as:

  • Equipment/materials, Publicity materials,
  • Training costs Educational trips
  • Residential courses Consultant / Speaker fees
  • Costs related to holding a community event:
  • Venue hire Publicity
  • Translation and signing costs Registered childcare costs
  • Transport to and from the event

Leeds Community Foundation

The Foundation is a grant making body for a number of local grants. Examples in October 2011 inclided Jimbo's Fund (Grants up to  £20,000), The International Personal Finance Fund, Mars in the community (over  £500), Comic Relief Local Communities (up to £10,000)

arts@leeds GRANTS

Funding for a wide range of art-based activity including music, theatre, dance, visual arts and crafts, film, photography, radio, new media and writing for non-profit organisations working with the arts in communities. Work may include workshops, festivals, exhibitions, performances and publications. Priority is given to applications which show evidence of local demand, fill gaps in current arts provision and demonstrate that they are effectively delivering work in the community.

No maximum limit is imposed, though the majority of first-time awards are for sums of less than £1,000.

The deadline for funding applications next year will be mid-January 2012.

Carers' Group Small Grants

Applications  for grants of up to £300 welcomed from carers on behalf of their Carers Group or organisations running a specific Carers Group other than organisations commissioned to provide carers support services by Leeds City Council. The aim of the fund is to support informal, unpaid carers who are looking after ill or disabled adults or children.

The grant can be used to pay for room hire, transport, mailings, respite, speakers, etc. and to fund specific projects or events for carers. It is not to be used for the cost of paid group facilitators.

Applications can be made throughout the year and funding decisions are based on a first come first served basis. Only one application per group is allowed. Contact for help or application form:

 Keeping House Ideas That Change Lives Investment Programme

Keeping House is a Leeds City Council Adult Social Care funded initiative to encourage the development of services which help people to live independently. We support and invest in social enterprises that aim to help the following people living in Leeds:

  • Older people
  • People with a learning disability
  • People with a physical disability or sensory impairment
  • People with a mental health need

There are two types of financial support available and both are subject to programme funding:

Kick Start Grants, up to £2,000: to cover the development costs of social enterprises wanting to set up in business to develop a service that helps people to live independently. This might be to cover the costs of a Feasibility or Business Plan, for instance.

Investment Grants,up to £10,000: for revenue or capital costs. They need to be accompanied by a business plan and cash-flow forecast that indicates how the business will move towards becoming self-sufficient in the first 3 years.

 The grants panel meets monthly throughout the year for Kick Start grants. Applications can be submitted any time and will be heard at the next available panel. Two next panel scheduled for the investment programme has a deadline of 19th December 2011.

Luncheon Club Annual Grant 2012/13

Applications can be made by independent community groups in Leeds wishing to provide a Luncheon club on a regular basis for older Leeds residents. Groups must serve at least 20 lunches per session to older people on a regular basis, have a bank account in the name of the Luncheon club with at least 2 signatories and a have put in place a constitution/ set of rules for the luncheon club.

Community groups who are aiming to develop existing or new luncheon clubs to a position where they serves 20 meals per session are also welcome to submit applications. These applicants are asked to show in their application clear evidence of need for an older people’s luncheon club in the area, together with a robust sustainable development proposal supported by an estimate of income and expenditure.

Successful applicants may receive a contribution towards meals, volunteer expenses including training, insurance for the club and rent for premises if applicable. Levels of grant will vary according to the individual circumstances contained in each application as well as the numbers of successful applications which meet the grant conditions. Groups will need to apply for funding each year and will be expected to provide monitoring information on the club’s activities, annual accounts of the Luncheon Club and an annual report. Mental Health Drop-in and outreach budget scheme

This scheme provides funding of up to £680 for groups whose main objective is to support people with mental health problems. The fund prefers to support user led groups.The funding for the scheme comes from Leeds City Council and is managed by Leeds Mind.

Applications welcomed from anyone who is organising projects which meet the criteria of being a Mental Health Outreach/Drop In Group including: Ethnic Minorities, Parents, Women, Young People, Projects covering one local geographical area, User-run projects, ‘Out-of-hours’ projects, Arts projects, Innovative / imaginative projects, Projects aiming to encourage cross agency project working. Grants are available for running costs such as room hire, payment for speakers, transport, refreshments, holidays, trips out and insurance. It does not fund the staff costs.

Application forms available from January 2011. Applications are looked at by a Panel in April and September and may be submitted throughout the year subject to funding availability.

Wade's Charity

Wade's Charity gives grants of up to £2,000 to groups operating in the pre-1974 boundary of the city of Leeds. This is roughly - but not entirely - places with a postcode between LS1 and LS17. Main aim is to support " the provision of facilities for recreation, amusement, entertainment and general socializing for people of every age in the City of Leeds including the establishment of what are commonly known as Community Centres and Youth Centres". Groups must be registered charities, locally-based. To apply groups are asked to submit information in writing including: registered charity number; name and address of organisation; your own name and contact address if different to above; brief details of your proposal, including costs (2-3 pages of A4); copy of your latest accounts.
